XTO Energy completes purchase of Hunt Petroleum

Fort Worth's XTO Energy Inc. has completed its purchase of privately held Hunt Petroleum Corp. XTO, a domestic oil and gas producer with significant holdings in the Barnett Shale, acquired the storied oil company for $4.2 billion.
XTO chairman and chief executive Bob R. Simpson said Hunt Petroleum's assets overlap XTO's positions in its eastern region.
Hunt Petroleum was previously owned by the family trusts of Margaret Hunt Hill and Hassie Hunt, children of H.L. Hunt. The purchase is XTO's largest ever, and included $2.6 billion in cash and 23.5 million shares of XTO common stock.
